Two arrested
Srinagar:  According to QNS, police have arrested two persons at Handwara today. The arrested persons include Muhammad Saleem Sheikh and Abdul Hamid War, both resident of Baderkal Handwara.

Matador gutted
Srinagar:  According to QNS, a Matador bearing registration number JK05/ 2649, caught fire and got partially damaged at Chatloora Dangiwacha, Baramulla. Cause of fire is being ascertained.

Structures gutted 
Srinagar: According to QNS,  fire broke out at Lashtiyal Kalaroos in which two residential house and two shops were gutted due to electric shot circuit. Meanwhile, Shrine of Sofi Poet Socha Kral situated at Inder gutted partially. Cause of fire is being ascertained. 

16 tourists rescued
Srinagar: According to QNS, sixteen tourists from Mumbai had a narrow escape Friday when they were caught in a storm while boating in the Dal Lake here. They were rescued in the nick of time by the river police. “Swift and timely action by the men of the river police saved the lives of these tourists who were in two boats in the Dal Lake when high speed winds blew in the afternoon.  One boat, which did not carry any tourist, capsized in the windstorm, but all the 16 tourists have been safely brought to the shore.

Two cases settled
Srinagar:  State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed New India Assurance Co. Ltd to pay Rs.5,31,320/- to one Haji Ghulam Rasool Sofi son of Late Abdul Rahim Sofi of Handwara whose insured stocks in trade were gutted in a fire incident in March, 1997. The Commission has directed the Company for making the payment within two months failing which complainant would be entitled to interest @ 8% per annum from the date of loss.  In another case, the Commission has directed General Manager BSNL Srinagar to pay Rs.10,000/- to Mr. G. M. D. Baba besides Rs.4,000/- as appeal cost for disrupting telephone connectivity between June 23 to December 18, 2005.

Traffic management committee
Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mehboob Iqbal today chaired a high level meeting to deliberate upon the recommendations of the committee constituted for suggesting ways and means to streamline the regulation of tourist buses coming from outside the state. Superintendent of Police, Traffic Kashmir, Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, Chief Engineer R&B, Kashmir, Joint Director Information, Kashmir besides senior officers of Tourism, Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), Municipality and other concerned departments attended the meeting. The Divisional Commissioner directed SDA to complete requisite facilities like drinking water, wash rooms, electrification etc. at Pantha Chowk bus terminal. He asked the SDA to earmark specific area at the bus terminal for these interstate buses. Regional Transport Officer was asked to provide prepared taxi services from Pantha Chowk bus terminal to various tourist places.  The Divisional Commissioner instructed the concerned authorities to ensure development, face lifting and provision of adequate amenities at the bus terminal for the convenience of the tourists and general public also. He exhorted officers to complete the job within the stipulated time so that tour operators are intimated about the halting place for tourist buses at specific places at Pantha Chowk bus terminal

Power shut down
Srinagar: To carry out repairs on 33/11 KV receiving station Salamabad, power supply to the areas fed from the line will remain off on May 12, May 13 and May 14, 2008 from 9 am to 6 pm.
