Three injured
Srinagar: Three people were injured and two vehicles damaged in two different road accidents in the Kashmir valley overnight, official sources said here today. They said two vehicles collided at Donipora, Sangam, on Srinagar- Jammu national highway resulting in injuries to two people. Both the vehicles were damaged, they said adding the injured were admitted to hospital. One Mohammad Ashraf Pandith was injured when a motorcycle he was driving turned turtle at Akhoora crossing Mattan in Anantnag district. The injured was hospitalised.

Indo-Pak: BSF Fires Over Suspected Movement Border
border in Ramgarh of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. During patrolling of the International Border in Jammu: BSF troops opened fire when they noticed some persons moving suspiciously along the Indo-Pak Ramgarh forward Border Out Post in Samba district, the BSF patrol party noticed some suspected movement, officials said. The troops later opened small arms firing in the area, they said, adding a search operation has been launched in the area.

Flowers business
Srinagar: With the onset of spring season, the demand for flowers has increased manifold in Srinagar. With the rise in demand, the turnover of the flower business is estimated to be over Rs 25 millions in the valley."Turnover (of flower business) is estimated at more than Rs. 25 million from November to March. Only few growers have shown interest in growing flowers, and it is on rise. We are hoping that demand for hybrid seeds, which are in trend these days, will also increase," said Mohammad Yusuf, a flower grower.The increased demand for flowers has paved the way for expanding floriculture in the region, with growers importing plants from other parts of the country. Flower vendors can be seen in the streets of the city selling plants starting from Rs 10.I have come to buy flowers here. As people in the region are fond of growing flowers, growers have imported varieties of flowers from other parts of country also. That's why people of the region come here to buy flowers, and I'm also fond of growing flowers," said Mushtaq, a customer.

Meeting held
JAMMU: A meeting of the empowered committee of State Transport Authority was held today in the office chambers of the Transport Commissioner, J&K, Dr. Syed Mohammad Fazlullah and appropriate decisions for the benefit of the general public were taken. The Transport Commissioner appreciates the Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir and his staff for their zeal and zest while performing their duties during the festival days. On the directions of Transport Commissioner, the Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir alongwith his staff had made satisfactory and worthwhile transport arrangements by providing sufficient number of buses/medium buses from all quarters of Kashmir Division for Zaireen pilgrims visited the Holy Shrine at Asar-I-Sharief Hazratbal Srinagar during festival days.

Market checking intensified in valley
Srinagar: The enforcement squad of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department today conducted market checking in Soura, Buchpora, Ellahi Bagh, Habbak, Hazratbal, etc.During the checking 206 business establishments were inspected and Rs. 4600 were recovered as fine from eight erring shopkeepers against the violation of EC Act. Meanwhile, a joint market checking with Inspector Circle-I and Circle-II, Srinagar was conducted in the markets of Jawahar Nagar, Nishat, Shalimar, Pantha Chowk, S.K. Colony, Qamerwari Parimpora, Barthana etc and 27 traders were booked for violating Weights and Measures Act. A fine of Rs. 10600 was also imposed on spot

Driver dies
Srinagar: An Army driver was killed after fire broke out in a barrack in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said here today. They said fire broke out in one of the barracks of 16 Infantry Regiment at Ziran, Tangmarg, in Baramulla district. However, before the flames could be controlled, one driver Jangh Bahadur Singh, resident of Tral in Pulwama district died. The cause of the fire was not known, they said adding police has registered a case and initiated proceedings. Meanwhile, a house was gutted in a fire incident at New Colony Naseem Bagh in the city outskirts. No one was injured, they said.

Special OPD in SMHS
Srinagar: The SMHS hospital administration has set up a special OPD for the patients in the afternoon, offical sources said here today. With toprovide OPD facility to patients in the afternoon, specialised doctors would treat them in the hospital from 1400 hrs to 1600 hrs, the sources said. On every Monday, specialised cardiology doctors would be available in the OPD while on Tuesday Endocrinology, Wednesday Gastroenterology and Thursday Nephrology would be available. This would be in addition to the OPD already functioning in the hospital, the sources added. This will for the first time that senior and specialised doctors in different departments would be available in the afternoon OPD in the hospital.

Poppy straw recovered
Srinagar: Police claimed to have arrested two smugglers and recovered 250 kg of poppy straw in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said here today. On a tip-off received about the movement of smugglers in Wachpora area in Pulwama, a naka was laid, they said and added that police saw two people moving in the same area under suspicious circumstances in the wee hours today. Later both the smugglers were arrested and 250 kg poppy straw was recovered from them.

2 bodies recovered
Srinagar: The decomposed body of a missing person was recovered in the frontier district of Kupwara while another corpse was found in the city, official sources said here today. They said a report was lodged in police station Handwara about one Mohammad Yousuf Mochi, missing from his house since January 1. Despite massive efforts no clue was found about him. Today his decomposed body was recovered from Hapora Nallah Bilmargi. Police has initiated proceedings, they said. In another incident, a person killed by an unidentified vehicle at Abdullah bridge here, has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of down town city, a police spokesman said. Police has so far failed to identify the vehicle which hit and killed Sheikh.
