Despite Official Claims, Fate of 900 Trained Dental Surgeons Hangs in Balance

Hence People urge Government to take Remedial Measures to Rehabilitate them without any Delay

Srinagar: It is disheartening to observe that Jobless trained Dental Surgeons are caught in a vortex of dejection and despondency in the valley of Kashmir and thus have been moving from pillar to post for the last several years, with no immediate relief in sight.

More than 900 Dental Surgeons stand crushed down due to apathetic treatment of higher authorities despite the fact that a large number of posts are reportedly vacant in several Hospitals of the State.

Most of these hapless Medical Professionals have crossed the age-bar and most are just to Cross it, while the State government has not even referred the posts to Public Service Commission (PSC) for advertisement, to seal their future, sources reveal.

Talking to the “Mirror of Kashmir News Service”, these unemployed Dental Surgeons of both Rural and Urban sectors of Kashmir said, “Due to perpetuation of injustice and mismanagement of affairs prevailing in the Corridors of power, we have been left high and dry, without jobs for the last ten years. There are several posts vacant in different hospitals of the State, not to speak of other Health Centres but we are being dodged on one pretext or other,” they alleged.

The General Secretary of all Kashmir Unemployed Dental Surgeons Union alleged, “The State government has made public a number of regular lists for Jammu province while candidates from Kashmir have been pushed to wall”. Terming it a regional discrimination, the General Secretary said that State government has always thrown dust into the eyes in broad day light. “This speaks volumes of how the Labour Laws are being exploited and services and seniority weigh no more”, the Secretary added.

Expressing anguish over the callous attitude of the authorities at the helm of affairs, Aijaz Rasool, a Jobless Dental Surgeon from Kanihama (Budgam) said, “We are jobless due to will full neglect of high ups of the department, whenever, we approached to the Concerned authorities for redressal of our grievances, they always turn a deaf ear to our Kosher request”.

It is strange to notice that many District and Sub-district Hospitals are without Dental Surgeons in the State of J&K, which forces the patients to roam about and travel from remote areas to Srinagar to get treatment. It runs counter to government claims that the State has become self-sufficient in Man-power in Health Sector.

In an appeal to the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma, the aggrieved unemployed Dental Surgeons have voiced their demand for their appointments through PSC or under NRHM Scheme by referring quota of vacant posts in Medical Education so that their grievances are redressed without any further delay and put an end to their mental frustration.

Therefore, it is expected that the Chief Minister and the Health Minister will take cognizance of the issue and take remedial measures to meet the end of justice. Whether their grievances are redressed remains to be seen!
