District Hospital Kulgam presents Mixed Picture of Hope and Despair
Hence People urge Govt., to equip it with requisite Strength of Docs/Paramedics and Drugs

Srinagar: In our Survey of Health-care facilities available in Kashmir valley, the “Mirror of Kashmir” correspondent visited Kulgam District to have the first hand information in this respect.
Kulgam is the newly created district of Jammu & Kashmir. The district lies in the Southern Kashmir. The District Hospital Kulgam is the main health-care facility of this district .This hospital facility presents a mixture of positivism and pessimism .On the positive side of the spectrum, the hospital has an impressive building and some more new Blocks are under construction.
The bed strength of 72 beds puts the Hospital in a satisfactory position if not impressive. Several medical tests are conducted in the Kulgam District Hospital. The cleanness and sanitation facilities in the IPD are satisfactory. When this correspondent visited the Kulgam District Hospital a few days back, the cleanliness process was in full swing in the In-Patient Department.
"Our hospital has a building that is in good shape .The overall bed strength also seems to meet the eye. The cleanliness and sanitation especially in the IPD is up to mark." said Arshid Khan, a patient attendant, while talking to our correspondent.
Naeem Rasool, a patient said, “Considering the location of Kulgam District, I can easily state that this health care facility presents a brighter outlook when compared to the other rural health care facilities of Kashmir. The hospital has good building when we compare it with the buildings of other district hospitals of the Kashmir. A bit more effort from the concerned authorities can really upgrade this health facility.”
The patients and attendants also state that the basic test facilities in the hospitals are quite satisfactory and also state that the cleanliness and sanitation related facilities in the In Patient Department (IPD) are up to the mark.
Mubeen Gulzar, a patient said, “We have here good facilities in this hospital for conducting a major chunk of the medical tests .The cleanness aspect of this hospital with reference to cleanness in the IPD is satisfactory. The facilities available in the emergency block although are not much great but are still better as compared to other facilities.”
The parking facilities in the Kulgam District Hospital are one of the best available parking facilities among the district hospitals of Kashmir. The outside space for seating of patients and their attendants in the hospital is also up to the mark.
“We do not have much problems related to the parking out here in this hospital. Patients and their attendants also have a quality seating or resting place available in the hospital. We are having spacious atmosphere in this hospital,” said Waseem Ahmad, a patient attendant.
The one side of the picture in the Kulgam District hospital is marked by lot of hope and optimism and presents a brighter outlook. But on the other side of the mirror there are lot of drawbacks that define the working of this hospital and takes altogether to other side of the spectrum.
